Site suggested path setting

Post by akong77 »

Hello,
If I have two domains, abc.com and 123.com, I suggest that the website path is best to automatically add the domain part.
Currently:
/www/
Suggest:
/www/abc.com/
/www/123.com/
Because this can prevent users who do not know the same subdomain from creating the same subdomain, for example:
xyz.abc.com
xyz.123.com
As a result, the path of the user settings page is set to
/www/xyz/
This is a problem. Can it be adjusted?

Hello,

This highly depends on the use case.

If a domain or subdomain gets created, it always points to the users "www/" directory. Starting from this directory I would argue, that the user knows best, where the new domains should point to.

Some (like you) prefer to create a subdirectory for each domain. Perfectly fine, but there are the other ones which name their subdirectories not like the domain name, but rather on their purpose, like a folder called "wordpress/", a folder called "shop/" etc.
And then there are these type of people, wo do a mixture of the ones above.

So like I said, this is a very personal settings and I do not want to force the user into a direction by suggesting it. Therefor the default directory is always "/" (= the users www/ directory), from this starting point, the user can configure it the way after personal taste.
The domain target can always be changed later on.

Hello:
I know that this setting allows users to set up how to build a website, but many people actually don’t notice that they put the main domain and subdomain directories under /www. They may think that the system will Create the main domain and subdomain in separate directories.

If this is the case, it is recommended to have at least one reminder mechanism. When the main domain and subdomain or both subdomains refer to the same directory, it is a better way to ask the user if they want to do this. what do you think?

You are making progress in convincing me .

First of all, i will enhance the description texts of the "Domain target" and "Directory" input fields when creating / editing a domain, to better describe what these settings are for.

Second, i will think about, what would be a nice solution to make it easier for the common user. Either a reminder, or use the domain name as directory by default and and and. (any suggestions are welcome ;) ).

EDIT: Implemented in KeyHelp 23.3 / 24.0

Thank you.
I think it is a good choice to use the domain as the directory after /www, and then the subdomain will also have its own directory, for example:
Domain: abc.com
Main domain: /www/abc.com/htdocs
123.abc.com: /www/abc.com/123
456.abc.com: /www/abc.com/456
I hope keyhelp gets better and better.
