LDAP and mod_php beside the panel installation

Post by Clouseau »

Hi, this is my first post so hello everybody :) This is a nice panel, I have been a linux sysadmin over 15 years and the most PITA is installing mail servers from scratch :-D So this is a welcome help.

I need some assistance as I have to run some older very custom app that is using mod_php. It is currently beeing ported so it can be used as a php app only with php-fpm. But as it uses perl in backend along php and some other stuff, managing LDAP on the server, I have to go with mod_php.

Can I run this on Keyhelp server? I mean, I have managed to run it, installed php8.4, enabled mod_php and switched apache to mpm_prefork. Also installed SLAPD and configured it. Can I run in some trouble on the go with maintenance upgrade tasks - OS patching or Keyhelp panel upgrades? Will the panel rewrite apache config or disable mod_php? The app is not using a vhost, it has its own app-apache.conf. To me this looks fine as this is installed beside Keyhelp panel so it should work on the long run.

Hello,

By default, mod_php is disabled by KeyHelp during installation and also during an OS version update using the dist-upgrade scripts. So at the very least, after performing an OS version update, you should double-check that everything still works as expected.

Regular panel updates are very unlikely to touch mod_php or the other mentioned configurations. Up to now, I haven’t changed anything related to mod_php in the upgrade code in any update, but I can’t guarantee this will always remain the case.

Generally speaking:
1) Regular panel updates should be fine
2) Check carefully after an OS version update using the KeyHelp dist-upgrade scripts.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards
