Domain default page

Post by dwilson56 »

Is there any future plans to add or move the Domain default page selection to Account Templates configuration page? I only ask because it (at least to me ) seems as if it would make more sense as that way you could create packages with specific Domain default page ie (WordPress etc.) without have to add this after the fact.

Hello,

Currently there are no such plans.

Can you elaborate, what you would like to achieve / give an example so I better understand, what you are trying to achieve.
User X should receive an other default page as User Y? What information do you plan to show there?
Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards

So basically, say when I go to (configuration/Account Templates) and set resources, I would like to be able to set a Domain Default Page for that template. For instance, if I place a WordPress installation in a directory in /etc/keyhelp/skel/ when create an a account with that template the WordPress installation will be there by default when the account is created. This especially useful when when automating package creation, because I could offer a WordPress hosting account with the installation package already in the directory, again this just an example. Currently in order to make this happen, the account is setup then I need to go to Edit domain and add this after the account is created.

As far as I know "etc/keyhelp/skel/" is deprecated anyway.

The biggest problem of the skel-option is to keep the installation files up to date.

With the filemanager this operation is much easier nowadays. eg: Just download wordpress-lastet-setup ZIP directly from the URL https://de.wordpress.org/latest-de_DE.zip and in the next step you can unzip the files, DONE!

But even much better would be a little script, placed in skel.
Step one: download Wordpress
Step two: unzip downloaded file
This script is placed in the root of the Domain and the first time you visit the URL the script starts.

Tobi

Just to reassure of dwilson56, the skel is not deprecated, as there are currently no plans to remove it ;).

I was just seeking to somewhat automate/simplify the download/upload process of WordPress/and other CMS for those who are not as seasoned, while at the same time minimize my manual action. Reason being, I get emails asking if I have WordPress hosting and I say yes and point to the package with the resources required for a solid WordPress experience, the next email I get after the account set up is where's the WordPress. When I say they need to download/upload and install I would say 20% cancel, 40% ask me to do it, while the remaining I just assume have knowledge of the process. So I figured without any massive changes etc/keyhelp/skel would be an easy way to handle this, only problem is you can only do this after the domain is set up, or while setting up the account manually.

When you actually serve customers, why not spend the money on KeyHelp Pro which offers you the one-click-installer?
