Dutch Translation has finished.

Post by BasHeijermans »

Finally,

The dutch version of the translation is done.
It took a long time

I have done it by head and translated to my best ability.
Sure it will have many mistakes.

Please let me know if I made errors as I want to correct them.

I hope you all enjoy the panel in Dutch if you are Dutch speaking.

It was pleasure to do it.

And Alex, thank you to put up with me and all the mails I have send
Greetings Bas.

Ik heb KeyHelp naar het Nederlands vertaald, contacteer me als er translatie fouten zijn.
(I have translated KeyHelp into Dutch, contact me if there are translation errors.)
Next version 24 of KeyHelp 100% translated.

I understand that this is an English topic, so I will write in English instead of Dutch. Firstly, thank you for the Dutch translation. Am I correct in thinking that you are more Belgian than Dutch? I noticed that the password reset on the login screen says:

Paswoord vergeten?

And in Dutch it would be:

Wachtwoord vergeten?

Same for:

Login met authentificator > Inloggen met authenticator

But maybe I am wrong and it could be a type. Or when I am right, maybe we can ask for 2 versions? Like Dutch and Belgian version. The thing is it now looks strange (for me) because it is the first page we visit.

Thank you for your message ;).

From the KeyHelp standpoint, it would be no problem to offer a nl_BE (Dutch - Belgium) and nl (Dutch) next to each other.
We already have it with Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese.

I am sure Bas will get in touch here shortly.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards

I can change that if you want, but I tried to be as close to the English as possible.
Because lots of stuff have been translated recently and not everybody uses the new translations.

In the early computing days there was no 'wachtwoord' but 'paswoord' was used because it's a work to let you pass...in dutch passeren.

As for the 'authentificator', I will follow your suggestion and change it.

Bas.

If you can please, it looks kind of strange to me as someone from the Netherlands. Maybe it is better to offer 2 versions? I checked the paswoord on taaladvies (https://taaladvies.net/paswoord-of-pass ... achtwoord/) and they say it is a Belgian word.

I am not into the translation file or basic yet for keyhelp, maybe if we have 2 versions I can check some bits, like the translations:

Bestanden Beheer

For us it is better to use:

Bestandsbeheer

and:

E-mail Adressen > E-mailadressen
Gebruikers Administratie > Gebruikersbeheer

please note I don't want to be picky I am really happy with your work, there are only some differences in our language :D

Hi Rikkerd.

Dutch and Vlaams are the same. There is no difference.

However, I tried to stay as close to English as possible.

There is a difference between technical-English/Dutch and normal-people-English/Dutch, is the case in any language.

Also there is a lot of explantion about the way a term is used/function. You have to alter those too.

It's not as simple as just change a few terms here and there.

Example, the Administration, there are 2 sorts, the Admin Administration and Users Administration, as such they are labelled as I did.

Because Administatorsbeheer sounds silly. Or whatever you want to name it.

In my opinion we better work together, but it's not as simple as you think.

Also, in case of trouble, you have to find it back in English and explain to Alex what went wrong....bugs or so....

I'm all for the 'correct' translations, but often there are none, other then just suggestions....of what (some) people are used to read.

Personally E-mail is stupid as the rest of the world uses Email....makes no sense, but the dutch dictionary states this....I never write it that way, never did :D

Hi Bas,

We can work together maybe via private chat or something to keep the forum clean. For the user administration translation I would say something like

Gebruikersbeheer
Beheerdersaccounts
Klantaccounts

Where in English it would be (taken from the panel)

User Administration
Administrator accounts
Client accounts

To keep all in line.

But the main thing why I replies is the login page translation because we in the Netherlands don't use the word paswoord.

Same for Gebruikersnaam mostly used is Gebruiksnaam.

Sorry this is not the case.
Never heard of gebruiksnaam.

https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gebruikersnaam

Wachtwoord or Paswoord, that depends.

https://taaladvies.net/paswoord-of-pass ... achtwoord/

The dutch use PASSWORD or WACHTWOORD....but the properly (Belgian) translates PASWOORD not?

I do suggest you start your own version as it makes no sense.

Like for printer, in dutch the official is afdrukeenheid, but nobody usses it, as all say printer.

Just look.....

https://taaladvies.net/afprinten-of-afd ... f-printen/

How ever you translate it, it will never be right as there are no correct ways of translating it in dutch.
I wonder how they translate it in Suriname, as they have their 'own' dutch too :o :D

Dutch is NOT as simple as we use this, or that. E.g. why do you use Mobile for a GSM? It's not Mobile but Handheld, it should be called Portable or Porto....as I said Dutch makes no sense :D Germans call it Handy...short for Handheld :D

As I don't speak Dutch, it would be nice to get an advice from you two in the future, what to do ;) (create a new language variant, change the existing, etc...). No need to hurry, take your time and discuss it via the forum or PM, what ever you like.

Maybe we have some more more guys from Dutch speaking countries here who can also add to this topic.

It is totally common for languages to have their country variant. For Dutch I counted 7 variants (Aruba, Belgium, Curaçao, ...)

Hello,

Firstly I want to make clear I don't want to start a big discussion about the translation files. The reason I replies was because I noticed some off words, that we use different in the Netherlands.

When I take for example Windows 11, there are 2 languages 1 would be Nederlands (België) the other be Nederlands (Nederlands). In a lot of software it is this way because there are some differences between the 2.

As said I don't want to start a big discussion, about it. I can use my own language file for our installation or I can check the current translation and we can create 2 versions. I would happy to hear what is the preference.

My preference is to keep 1 language file and do it together with Rikkerd as it's a lot of work.
Personally I do not care if it's paswoord or wachtwoord, people will understand it either way.

It's just that a lot of terms have no official translation, not in Belgium and not in The Netherlands.
Even dictionaries contradict each other

So I suggest Rikkerd and I fight over it in private and create 1 translation that we are both happy with.
Saves everybody a lot of time, as they change a few times a year and also it helps to have an extra brain to help with the work ;)

So Rikkerd, I suggest you download the latest nl.zip, make your changes and I upload it to my server and check the changes, then if we both agree we send the final version to Alex.
